About THE GATEWAY WRITING PROJECT
Since 1978, the Gateway Writing Project (GWP), in partnership with the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Harris-Stowe State University, has sought to improve literacy education--and in particular the teaching of writing--in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. Along with providing professional development opportunities for teachers, GWP has a strong outreach focus for area youth. Our other youth initiatives include youth writing conferences, Scholastic Awards writing contests, the St. Louis Youth Poet Laureate competition, and sponsored events such as the National Day on Writing and the NaNoWriMo writing challenge. With the launch of Onecity Stories, GWP continues its mission of ensuring the voices of STL youth are heard.
